Solar water submersible pumps have been meeting the needs of rural and remote off-grid locations for homes, cabins, agriculture, livestock and wildlife watering.  But what happens when you want a solar solution and already have a good working pump installed?  That's where a hybrid controller comes in. These rugged and reliable solar controller kits are perfect for wells with static water levels of 1000 feet or less and can provide hundreds or thousands of gallons of water per day.  The hybrid controller can be set up to use solar as the primary power source with an automatic grid fallback or use solar as primary source with a manual generator input.  You can also use AC as the main power source with automatic solar fallback, but it is better to set up solar as the main source to also save electricity costs.  If you have an existing array, it may be possible to parallel your array to the hybrid controller, but this is done on a case-by-case basis.

What makes up the system?

Hober controllers and Shakti Pumps can be purchased separately or in kits with or without solar panels. We can provide a 300W to 10KW array for your pumping needs, agricultural, livestock, domestic water or backup water.  We'll even include all the PV wire, combiner box, lightening supression and switches if you want a full turnkey kit.

Hybrid controllers work with single phase or 3 phase pumps, Capacitor Start (CS) or Capacitor Start/Capacitor Run (CSCR) motors with external capacitors.

System components include

The Hober system components may include:

Hybrid solar controller
PV wiring from the controller to the solar array
Racking for solar panels (ground/roof or pole mount)

Please keep some things in mind when choosing the type of system you want:
  • Systems that operate on solar only are the most cost effective solution.
  • Ground or roof mounting panels is more cost effective than pole mounting.
  • We need accurate information to provide you with an accurate estimate.

In the middle of June I called and asked a hundred questions about how a solar controller works.  I'm building a small acreage near town and cant run the pumps on generators due to noise, and electricity is not available due to the high cost and lack of easement access.  I'm pumping 30gpm from a 300 foot deep well into about 15,000 gallons of storage on a daily basis, or whatever the tanks can hold.   These guys were extremely helpful determining the size of pump, the emergency only generator, the soar array sizing and even the pipe and wire sizes for the irrigation setup.  Despite the heavy pump for this application, it was a simple job to put in. Another phone call to get the controller set up correctly and we had water flowing like a gusher.  All said and done I was in awe when it actually worked!! Not only that, but it is pumping much more water than Ryan said he thought it would at that distance.
