Drinking Water Purification Systems
Berkey
® Water Filter Purifiers

After oxygen, water is the next most essential component of sustaining human life and sparkling clean fresh drinking water is the foundation to a healthy life and healthy body.
Drinking water purification systems at the public utility level include complex filtration, chemical treatment in some cases and chlorination. Even though public utility water quality is usually good, there are many unwanted chemicals and contaminants not removed. Frequently these produce unpleasant tastes and odors and can be harmful to human health.

Berkey® water purification systems remove viruses, pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites while extracting chemicals including herbicides, pesticides, organic solvents, VOCs, detergents, cloudiness, silt, sediment, foul tastes and odors and are able to reduce heavy metals such as cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, aluminum and other dangerous substances without removing the healthful and beneficial minerals that your body needs.

Berkey® purifies water using micro-porous filtration. Black Berkey® purification elements are so small that pathogenic bacteria are simply not able to pass through them. The media within the elements remove contaminants by a surface phenomenon known as “adsorption” which results from the molecular attraction of substances to the surface of the media.

These purification elements are also impregnated with proprietary “absorbing” media that promote ionic “absorption” of pollutants within the micro-porous elements. The flow rate or time of exposure through the exclusive Black Berkey® purification elements has been calculated to yield the greatest volume removal of toxic chemicals and pathogenic bacteria found in nature and caused by pollution from industry and agriculture.

Berkey® systems are capable of purifying both treated water and untreated raw water from such sources as remote lakes, streams, stagnant ponds providing a system for everyday as well as in emergency situations where electricity, water pressure or treated water may not be available. This simple, highly effective method of using gravity was developed almost 200 years ago and still produces some of the finest, most healthful drinking water available.

  • Imperial Berkey®: Water storage 6 gallons (17 liters), 30 x 11 inches, 20 inch nested transport height, produces 6.5 gallons per hour, comes with two purification elements and can be expanded to eight elements for purifying up to 26 gallons per hour

Note that purification flow rates are calculated with the upper chamber full and that flow rates decrease as water levels decline.

These units are constructed of highly polished 304 stainless steel. Each unit has includes a spigot for dispensing purified water from the lower chamber and two Black Berkey elements. A sight gauge spigot is available as an option for any of these units.

Berkey Light®

The Berkey Light® is constructed of shatter resistant non-BPA co polyester which does not leach foul tasting plasticizers and will not retain foul tastes or odors from waterborne contaminants.  This unit is lighter in weight than the Travel Berkey® and is ideal for transport (if you have the space) due to its impact resistance.

  • Berkey Light®: Water storage 2.75 gallons (10.4 liters), 21 x 9 inches, produces 2.5 gallons per hour, comes with two purification elements and can be expanded to four elements for purifying up to 4 gallons per hour.  Base is included.  An LED lighted base is an extra cost option.

Black Berkey® Purification Elements

Black Berkey® purification elements are available it packages of two.  These elements have a 2 year warranty prorated at 6 month intervals.

Berkey® PF-2 Fluoride & Arsenic Reduction Elements

PF-2™ reduction elements are designed for use in combination with Black Berkey® water purification elements to adsorb fluoride, arsenic V, pre-oxidized arsenic III and other residual heavy metal ions in drinking water.  Under normal conditions it is recommended that each set of two PF-2™ elements be replaced after 1,000 gallons (3,785 liters).  Actual capacity is dependent on the presence of other competing contaminants in the source water. High levels of fluoride, arsenic and heavy metals may reduce the capacity and efficiency of the elements.
